Senator Amanda Chase turned heads when she showed up to the Capitol with a gun at her side.
This Republican Senator sported a .38-caliber revolver during her speech at a Senate hearing.
The purpose of the hearing was simply to present her bills.
But her actions told their own story.
Senator Chase is most notably a supporter of government transparency and limited government.
But lately, she has made waves as a staunch opponent of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA).
The Family Foundation and other pro-life groups label the ERA as anti-women and Anti-American.1
In fact, they’ve even declared that the amendment opens the door for the courts to mandate taxpayer-funded abortion.
Sen. Chase Offers ERA Counter with Firearm at Her Side
While open carrying in the Senate, one of the Senator’s proposals was a direct counter to the ERA.
Chase’s resolution “reaffirms that all persons residing in Virginia are afforded equal protection under the law. The resolution cites numerous guarantees of equality that currently exist in both federal and state law while refuting the necessity, utility, and viability of the Equal Rights Amendment.”2
Chase explained the ERA proposes that “equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any State on account of sex” which Chase attacked as vague wording that could have unexpected consequences.
But the Senator wasn’t exercising her Second Amendment right just to make headlines for her legislation.
Chase made the decision after one of her colleagues was accosted by left-leaning activists.
When Senator Dick Black (R) was confronted this week the police were called in.
However, the event passed without any injuries.
“Unfortunately in the General Assembly we see the good, we see the bad, we see all types of things,” Chase said. “It’s just for personal safety, quite honestly.”3
