Organizers Explain Why The Media Ignored Coverage Of Anti-Northam Protests

This week, protesters reminded Virginia of the scandals Governor Ralph Northam is eager to have them forget.

Northam was invited to Democrat Senator Dave Marden’s high-dollar fundraiser in Northern Virginia.

But a crowd of protesters laid those plans to rest.

Now, organizers are explaining why they believe the mainstream media declined to send the typical flock of reporters to the anti-Northam rally.

NOVA Locals Rally For Anti-Northam Protest

The Fairfax NAACP and Republicans gathered locals to protest Gov. Northam as he planned to headline a local high-dollar fundraiser.

After Northam made comments supporting late-term and post-birth abortion, a photo surfaced from Northam’s yearbook page of a white man in blackface and another in a KKK hood.

At first, Northam admitted responsibility for the photo, but then shortly afterwards stated he was not in the photo at all. However, he explained that he did wear blackface for a dance contest.

After the post-birth abortion scandal, Republicans nationwide called for Northam’s resignation.

Then, with the addition of the blackface photo scandal, prominent Democrats joined in the calls demanding that the Governor resign.

But Northam doesn’t plan on going anywhere, and this weekend he tried to get back to business as usual.

A wall of protestors, however, seemed to shake the idea that Virginia has forgotten the scandals.

In a statement to WTOP, Northam’s office explained that safety concerns were the reason they chose not to attend the event.

Media Ignores Coverage Of Anti-Northam Protest

Organizers for the anti-Northam rally stated that they felt the mainstream media was refusing to send reporters to their event.

They claim that if Northam was not a Democrat, the protests would have attracted a lot more media attention.

“If it was a Republican, then I could see hundreds of thousands of people there and you know, every outlet and you know, CNN, Fox, everybody would be down there with a, with a TV camera,” Virginia GOP Communications Director John March stated.

“If he tries to do a fundraiser with any Democrat anywhere in the state, all the way down to Lee County, we’ll be there.”

The Fairfax County NAACP stated on Facebook that Northam’s blackface scandal, while unacceptable behavior, has given Virginia an opportunity.

“One benefit of this controversy surrounding the governor is that it has pulled back the veil of tolerance and inclusion that the Virginia’s Democratic Party claims to be,” stated the Fairfax County NAACP on Facebook.

“History will judge us at this moment and you can bet we’ll be on the right side. Where will you be?”
