Republicans Respond to Northam’s Extreme Comments: “Heartbreaking”

Yesterday, Senator Bryce Reeves appeared on Fox News following Governor Northam’s extreme comments on abortion.

During a radio interview, Northam had seemingly endorsed allowing newborn children to die if the mother and a consenting physician so desired.

Now, outrage in the Commonwealth is reaching a boiling point.

And Reeves’ interview on Fox News displays the gut reaction of many Republicans.

“This is extremely heartbreaking for me,” Reeves said. “As a former Army Ranger, as a police officer, I spent the entirety of my adult life protecting that.”

The State Senator went on to explain that the bill, HB 2491, would have passed the House if just a couple votes had swung the Democrats’ way.1

Media Largely Ignored Northam’s Extreme Comments

Although Fox News was willing to cover the story, the mainstream news networks decided not to mention the events at all.

Despite the national and viral nature of the events, the story only seemed to spread through online sources and Fox News.

NewsBusters looked into nightly news coverage and found that of Fox News, ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, and MSNBC, only Fox News included the story in their coverage.2

“Instead of covering this, CNN and MSNBC covered topics that included rehashing tweets from over 12 hours earlier in which the President knocked his intelligence chiefs,” NewsBusters reported.

What do you think?

Should mainstream media networks give stories like this more coverage?

Or is Northam correct in stating the conservative reaction is overblown?
