A Virginia Democrat Is Fundraising Off The Philadelphia Shootout

Earlier this week six police officers were injured during a gunfight with an armed suspect.

While the injuries were serious, it appears  each will recover in time.

But one Virginia Democrat decided the horrific events could be used to fundraise for his re-election campaign.

Democrat’s Facebook Fundraiser Leaves Voters Outraged

Wednesday, as the Philadelphia shootout between an armed man and police was unfolding, Democrat Mark Levine took to Facebook to voice his comments.

But the liberal Delegate’s comments weren’t limited to safety or policy concerns.

Instead, Levine used the attention to make a pitch for Virginians to donate to his campaign.

“For every dollar donated today up to $10,000, I will give $2 from my campaign to a Democratic candidate who supports universal background checks and an assault weapons ban,” from Delegate Levine’s Facebook post.1

Levine further updated his post to cross-out the number of police officers were injured as updates rushed in. When another officer was reported was wounded, Levine would strike out the old number, replacing it with the new total of injured cops.

Levine Lies to Voters About Republican Gun Policy

Adding gas to the fire, Republicans are accusing Delegate Levine of using the shootout to misrepresent the Republican position on gun sales.

Levine writes, “Virginia Republicans insist that we must allow terrorists, criminals, and gangs to have easy access to these weapons of war.”

Virginia Republicans stated this is simply false, and voiced their outrage over the post.

“This is disgusting. But I’m not surprised what depths Democrats would lower themselves to in order to get contributions,” Republican District Chairwoman Jennifer Brown.2

Voters Snap Back at Del. Levine on Facebook

Levine’s post drew attention almost immediately, and at the time of publishing has racked up 221 comments and four shares.

Many of the comments are from voters lodging their outrage with Levine for using a national tragedy to fundraise for his campaign.

“YOU’RE KIDDING, RIGHT? Fundraising on the heels of this? You’ve got a sanctuary city, a man with 12 PAGES OF CRIMINAL CHARGES WHO WAS NEVER BROUGHT TO TRIAL BY THE CITY’S JUSTICE SYSTEM, and an idiot mayor–and you’re FUNDRAISING? Puke!”

“Another tragedy, another donation pitch. Also, another example of how little functioning knowledge you have of firearms or the legal landscape concerning them…What you are proposing is infringement and is against the law…”
